Is There Oil In Your Lamp?

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight, there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. Matthew 25:1-13

Let's take a closer look at this parable...

The bride did her work everyday, she was expecting her groom to come for her soon. Her lamp was full of oil, ready to light, even while she was waiting, living her normal life.

When the word was given, "The bridegroom is coming!", they all trimmed their lamps and were ready to meet him the moment he arrived.

Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when you think not. Luke 12:40

The foolish looked and acted like they were ready, but when the time came, they didn't have any oil. When the foolish least expected, the bridegroom came, and because they weren't ready they were left behind. The door was shut and the bride was with the bridegroom at the marriage. Then the others came saying, "Lord, let us in, we are ready to meet you now." He said to them, "I don't know you."

Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor unto him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. Revelation 19:7-8

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ. Titus 2:13.

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 2:8

Many Christians are like the wise; they are waiting with great expectancy for Jesus to return.

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Romans 13:11-12

While other Christians know he will come back, but they aren't ready to meet him, yet. They say, "What's the big hurry? People have been saying he's coming back for years, we have lots of time.”

Will Jesus find you ready and waiting, with oil in your lamp, when He comes back for his bride?
